Est. 2006 · Still just text
The guy behind the folders

I am the least impressive person you will take advice from this year.

I cannot write a line of code. I can barely hang a shelf. Everything I run, I built by telling a computer what I wanted in plain English and keeping the files where I could find them.

My name is Ryan McKinney. Most people call me RyMac. I am a Marine, and I have been putting words on the internet since 2006, back when putting words on the internet took all afternoon.

What actually happened.

In 2006 I was broke, in the Marine Corps, with a secondhand tower and a phone line. I taught myself to make text bold in a document because I could not afford anything that had a logo on it.

I would type a page. Upload it. Then wait. The bar would crawl. I would go to formation and come back and it would still be going. Days, sometimes, before it was live.

Then I would see the typo. In the headline. Every single time.

So I would open the text file, fix 1 letter, and start the whole thing over.

That is the entire education. Not a course. Not a certification. Just typing, waiting, and being wrong in public until I stopped being wrong so often.

Where that left me.

20 years later I run several businesses. Offers, clients, content, ops, follow-up, the unglamorous stuff nobody posts about.

The operating system underneath all of it is text files in folders. The same thing I was doing on dial-up. The only difference is that now there is 1 AI agent sitting at the desk with me, and it can read.

That is not a philosophy I arrived at. It is what was left after everything else broke.

Why you should listen to me at all.

Fair question, so here is the short resume with no decoration on it.

I have been selling for 25 years. I started knocking doors at 15. I was a Marine from 2006 to 2010, and I made my first dollar online in 2006 while I was still in. I went full time in 2011.

I owned a 7 figure agency, and I trained agencies for years. That is the part that matters here, because it means I am not an outsider with an opinion about your business. I am one of you, a few years further down the road.

Entrepreneurs On Fire tracked me down and interviewed me. I have a list of over 10,000 people who have paid me for something I built, marketed, and closed.

I lead with none of that, normally. I would rather the work do it. But you are about to take filing advice from a stranger on the internet, so you should know the stranger has run the thing he is talking about.

Why I give the folder system away.

Because it is a text file and a folder structure. Charging 5 grand for that is the exact thing I complain about.

You could build it yourself tonight for free. I am saving you 10 minutes of right-clicking and the guesswork of what goes in each file.

The method has a name, Interpretable Context Methodology, and it is not mine. Jake Van Clief and David McDermott wrote the paper. I am the guy who runs it in public and shows you the receipts.

What I am not.

I am not a developer. I am not going to teach you to code, because I cannot.

I am not going to sell you an orchestration platform, a vector database, or a seat in a 12-week cohort about agent swarms.

I am a salesperson who learned to make a computer do the boring parts, and my whole moat is taking complicated things and making them look as simple as they actually are.

If you want the short version

Broke Marine, dial-up, typos. 20 years of selling. 1 agent, 2 text files, 1 folder. That is it. That is the whole resume.

Where to find me.

I am in my free Skool community every day, building this stuff with people, in public, including the parts that do not work.

Or email me. ryan@filesnfolders.com comes straight to me, and I answer it myself.

Semper Fi,

RyMac
